Biography of Lyric Landscape Painter

Born in Rome, Italy, of American expatriate artists Richard Couper and Mildred Couper, Rosalind Nordli's early schooling was in New York City.   Her family then moved to California where she finished her education and attended 3 years at the Santa Barbara School of Fine Arts.  Married in the 1930's to Disney illustrator Ernest Nordli, the couple relocated to Los Angeles, and had two sons.  Later work took them to Connecticut and New York City.  Rosalind eventually returned to Santa Barbara and pursued studies in painting as well as dance.  

She has had many one-person shows in galleries Picadilly Square, Los Olivos, Gallery 113, Gallery Art Brut, The Faulkner Gallery, Goleta Valley Community Center, and her own studio in Mission Canyon.   She has also exhibited at Art Walks and Private Studio Tours, and won many awards for her water colors and oil paintings, as well as jewelry and sculpture. She was recently featured on the Emmy award-winning video "Impressions in Time: A Story of Santa Barbara," produced for educational television. Nordli is related to American sculptors William Couper (1853-1942) and Thomas Ball (1819-1911).

Nordli's art has been featured at several one-woman shows: Barnsdall Art Center, Los Angeles, 1961; Santa Barbara RSVP Gallery, 1980; and at Santa Barbara Recreation Center, 1986 and 1987. She is an award member of the Santa Barbara Art Association. She received a First Award at Crestline Intermountain Art Show, 1966. Rosalind received Best of Show Awards in June 1984, October 1991 and March 1993. She has also been a featured artist at Gallery 113: October 1991 and September 1993.
